Ph.D. Admission: Organic Chemistry

For details regarding admission to the Institute click here

Students are admitted to the Department either through the regular Ph.D program or the integrated Ph.D program.

Ph.D Program:

The minimum requirement is a second class or equivalent grade in Master's Degree in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics or a related subject. Admission to the research program is based on an entrance test (usually held in late April) followed by an interview at the Institute (usually in early June). Students with CSIR/UGC fellowships or a valid GATE score may appear for the interview directly, following the same application procedures.

Integrated Ph.D Program:

This relatively new program (started in 1990) is designed to attract highly motivated science graduates with an aptitude for research so that they can directly pursue a Ph.D degree. Selected students will undergo rigorous course work during the first two years in additon to experimental training in various laboratories in the Chemical Sciences Division.
The minimum qualifications for admission is a Bachelor's degree in Science with first class or equivalent grade. Under systems other than 10+2+3, only B.Sc. degree holders with a first class and having eligibility for post-graduate science or engineering education in their Universities are eligible. Selection to this program is also based on an entrance examination followed by an interview.
The advertisement for both of these programs appear in all important national newspapers in early February.
